Fleabag Monkeyface is First CITV Commission in 5 Years
December 3, 2010
UK children’s network CITV will be the broadcast home for new animated series Fleabag Monkeyface. This is the first new animation to be commissioned from CITV since 2005.
Says Emma Tennant, Controller of ITV Digital Channels: ”CITV are thrilled to be partnering with Sparky Animation Pte Ltd, Impossible Kids and Walker Productions to bring the successful book franchise, Fleabag Monkeyface to our viewers. The characters of Fleabag and his friends Gene and Gerald are a perfect fit for the CITV Channel. They’re bright, imaginative, funny and, at times, just a little bit gross; a perfect compliment to our other shows. We’re sure that they will be a great hit with our viewers.”
Based on the popular Fleabag Monkeyface book series by Knife and Packer and published by Walker Books, the 52 x 11’ episodes have been developed and produced for TV through a partnership between Sparky Animation, Impossible Kids and Walker Productions, the production arm of children’s publishers Walker Books. Aimed at 6-10 year olds, the series will launch on CITV, ITV1 and GMTV1 in September next year.
This fast paced, fearsomely funny show follows the gross-out adventures of our eponymous hero and his two creators, Gene and Gerald, best friends and fans of all things grossly silly. Together they present a weekly TV show called Gross Out TV, a show they were given when its original presenter, Dr Dirk Spamflex, became evil and tried to take over the world with a monster created entirely from earwax called …. Earmageddon!
Karl Woolley Executive Producer of the series says, “Fleabag Monkeyface brings together a number of great partners in a true spirit of co-production; cutting-edge animation in Sparky (Singapore), brilliant authors in Knife and Packer, a dynamic and forward thinking publishing/production house in Walker Books, highly skilled and experienced children’s specialists at Impossible Kids, and a hugely supportive broadcaster in ITV. Together these partners will realise a truly ground-breaking series that is set to establish itself in the UK and beyond as a children’s television classic.”
KC Wong, CEO of Sparky Animation, adds: “We are very excited to be part of this major collaboration which chronicles the tales and adventures of Fleabag Monkeyface and his journey into a world where ‘gross is good, rotten rocks and smelly sells’. We believe that it offers something uniquely funny to viewers. The combination of our creative talents and advanced technology will ensure that Fleabag Monkeyface will appeal to its target audience.”
