Adventuring zoologist Nigel Marven pushes himself to the limit as he sets out on a danger-laden quest to find the largest land animals ever to have lived.
Nigel visits the early Cretaceous Argentinean landscape of 100 million years ago where he encounters the 95 tonne Argentinosaurus, the biggest dinosaur of all time. However, he must also face the deadly Giganotosaurus, the biggest of the meat-eating dinosaurs not to mention the gigantic crocodile Sarcosuchus and the magnificent flying pterosaur Ornithocheirus.
To fulfil his quest, Nigel uses cutting edge technology to bring him close to the action. Whether he’s flying a microlight with Pterosaurs or following a pack of hunting Dinosaurs in his jeep, Nigel constantly uses his skill and knowledge as a zoologist to keep him and his crew alive and to bring us up-close footage of these giants from a lost era.
The programme was filmed on location in the stunning volcanic scenery of the Spanish Canary Islands and combines high-octane real-life footage with the same computer animation techniques that were developed for the international multi award-winning series Walking with Dinosaurs. Land of Giants and The Giant Claw won the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Programme in 2004.
