Impossible Pictures is a multi-award winning independent television production company based in the UK and led by Tim Haines, best known as the creator of the ground-breaking series Walking with Dinosaurs.

Specialising in high-impact Drama, Factual and Children’s shows for primetime, Impossible Pictures has built up a reputation for bringing CGI and high-end effects to the small screen and delivering spectacular productions to major broadcasters worldwide.

Founded in 2001, Impossible’s first productions were a series of Walking with Dinosaurs specials that took the celebrated series in a new direction, bringing in a presenter to interact with spectacular CGI dinosaurs for the first time and garnering both BAFTA and Emmy Awards for the company.

2004’s Space Odyssey was a landmark docu-drama that followed a group of astronauts on a six year mission to investigate the furthest planets in our solar-system, which became the inspiration behind the forthcoming series Defying Gravity currently in production from Fox TV Studios with CTV, Pro7 and the BBC.

Impossible’s first full drama production was The Legend of the Tamworth Two, an ambitious project using real animals whose movements were captured by computer technology and enhanced to create human characteristics. It was broadcast in a primetime Easter Saturday slot on BBC1.

In 2007, Impossible took British television drama to a new level with Primeval; delivering a hit prime-time series for both ITV in the UK and Pro7 in Germany. Now in its fourth series with a firmly established international fan-base, Primeval is a rip-roaring, special effects-laden thriller in which unexplained anomalies are ripping holes in the fabric of time, allowing creatures from the past, and the future, to roam the modern world.

Primeval is essentially a family show, yet with its fresh and modern feel, intelligently written characters and storylines and feature film quality CGI, it succeeds in capturing the imaginations of everyone, which has secured its ongoing success around the world. Primeval quickly became BBC America’s second most popular drama series and it has consistently performed above slot averages in countries such as Germany, Spain, France and South Korea and internationally is more often compared to big budget US series than its British contemporaries.

It is broadcast in more than 80 countries and has garnered considerable international acclaim, described by Los Angeles Daily News as “…such an invigorating action show that the broadcast networks would kill to have it.”

Whatever the subject matter Impossible’s stamp is an ambitious approach and our aim is always to take audiences beyond their imagination.
