Following on from his adventures in The Giant Claw and The Land of Giants, adventuring zoologist Nigel Marven turns his attention to the prehistoric oceans.
Nigel risks life and limb on this high adrenaline prehistoric adventure – a quest to experience the seven deadliest seas of all time. He wants to swim with some of the flesh and blood sea monsters that were once a part of Earth’s aquatic past. What starts as a zoological quest soon becomes a lesson in survival as Nigel and his film crew have some encounters that are too close for comfort.
Sea Monsters continues to use the technique, started in the previous two specials, of presenting the dinosaurs in a dramatic documentary context; however the creatures are in closer view than has ever been shown before, demanding an even greater level of detail in the special effects.
Sea Monsters won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Visual Effects in 2004.
